Welcome to the August edition of Tax Talk. This month I am sharing helpful information on the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes, the Value Adjustment Board, and the upcoming 2010 Sales Tax Holiday. It’s Coming . . ., the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes
Most people ignore the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes, not realizing its significance. The Property Appraiser sends property owners the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes, also referred to as a Truth In Millage (TRIM) Notice. The TRIM Notice is important because it identifies the deadline and provides instructions for filing a challenge to your proposed property values. Read more>.
What is the VAB?
The Value Adjustment Board settles disputes between taxpayers and the Property Appraiser. Taxpayers receive notification in August of their properties assessed and market values in the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes, also called the Truth In Millage (TRIM) Notice. A taxpayer may file a petition with the VAB if he/she feels the Property Appraiser's assessment, classification or exemption status for their property is not correct. Read more>

This location provides many diverse services, such as processing over 13,000 motor vehicle transactions each month, collecting Property Tax payments, issuing Local Business Tax Receipts, and selling the SunPass Mini. Are You Ready for the 2010 Sales Tax Holiday?
Don’t forget Florida’s three day Sales Tax Holiday begins August 13 and ends August 15. Books, clothing, footwear, wallets, and book bags costing less than $50 and school supplies under $10 will be tax-free during the tax-free holiday. Read more>
