One person can start a movement. Multiply that times three, again and again, and you create a powerful community that can effect real change. UCubed is an online community to empower the unemployed and fight for JOBS Now! It brings people together – the unemployed and underemployed alike – to build a community of Jobs Activists who will create local networks, support one another and help get America back to work.
Ur Union of Unemployed, nicknamed “UCubed”, is a community service project of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) and can be found at http://www.unionofunemployed.com. What is the purpose of a Cube? Each Cube connects the unemployed (from any field) to resources in a unified and useful way. Strength in numbers and the voice they carry as each Cube grows into Neighborhoods and eventually into Blocks - cannot be ignored. Blocks of the unemployed can hone in on skills and talents to help and support each other.
Jobs Activists, organized by their zip codes, advocate for sound public policy, emailing public officials to alert them about policies that directly impact the jobless. And to help ease the burden of being unemployed, they receive steep discounts and rebate dollars when shopping the Machinists Mall on the UCubed website (http://www.unionofunemployed.com). An example of one of the resources available via UCubed is an Employment Services Resource Manual. This free document provides information on planning for layoffs; types of assistance available for those laid off; résumé/job application tips; sources to locate employment opportunities; health insurance information; budgeting resources; and additional resources for those seeking employment.
