All Aboard! All Hands on Deck. The Palm Beach County Tax Collector’s Office held its 1st day-long In-Service Day on June 4, 2009 to better equip employees for the “Un-Government Experience” Journey. In-Service Training is designed to provide education for employees to help develop their skills in a specific discipline or occupation. The TCO In-Service day was designed around the 4 Es: an organization-wide initiative to create service standards that will:
• Excite customers (Focus on our Clients)
• Exceed operationally (Focus on Work Place Efficiency)
• Expand resources (Focus on Compliance and Revenues)
• Energize employees (Focus on Employee Development)
Employees participated in workshops facilitated by other employees on an staff-driven process to resolve operational issues, communication styles, FISH customer service model, and health and wellness tips to energize each other. Each department was charged with explaining their strategic objective to all of the employees through visual arts performances. The purpose of the performances was to help each department understand how they are dependent on each other and how we all contribute to the effectiveness of the organization. The day concluded with an explanation of the TCO’s wellness initiative designed to reduce one of the top budgetary problems facing businesses throughout the United States – rapidly rising health care expenses.
