Tax Collector Gannon Increases County Revenue

The Tax Collector’s Office began researching missed opportunities to increase revenue and is acting on those opportunities related to tangible personal property. The following process has been instituted to increase current tangible personal property accounts:

  • Notify client that the tangible tax is delinquent.
  • Request commitment for payment.
  • Post delinquent notice on window of business if the commitment is not honored.
  • Conduct an audit on location (notating every piece of equipment to prepare for a seizure sale).

Since December 2008 this revamped collection and enforcement process has resulted in collection of over $50,000. Last month an auction was held on medical equipment voluntarily seized from delinquent taxes from 2006 and 2007. The auction has resulted in a commitment of $20,000 in revenue thus far.
