Property Tax Discounts, Address Change and Exemption Information

February is the last month to receive a discount (1%) on early payment of property taxes. To ensure that your payment is processed efficiently, please follow these guidelines when submitting your property tax payment.

When mailing a payment, remember to:

  • Write your property control number on your check.
  • Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your payment if you would like a validated receipt for your mailed payment.
  • Use the return envelope provided in your tax notice.

Our improved website, www.taxcollectorpbc.com, offers streamlined payment options on the home page.

Our office will accept February property taxes in person on March 2 and tax payers will receive the February discount. According to Florida Statutes, if the end of a discount period falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday the discount period is extended to the next working day and the payment must be delivered to our office.

Remember if your mailing address has changed, in addition to notifying the United States Postal Service you must also notify the Property Appraiser, in writing with a signature. Reminder tax notices will be mailed out in March for all properties that have not been paid. No discounts are allowed in March and taxes become delinquent on April 1.

Verify eligibility or apply for Homestead Exemption with the Property Appraiser by March 1, at (561) 355-2866. Florida’s “Save Our Homes” amendment limited the increase in the annual assessment of homestead properties to 3% or the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), whichever is less. The CPI reported in January 2009 increased 0.1% from the previous calendar year. Therefore, 0.1% will be used as the homestead valuation limitation for the 2009 tax roll.

The following exemption amounts apply for 2009:

  • Income Limitation for Person 65 and Older: $25,873
  • Income Limitation for Persons Totally and Permanently Disabled: $25,221
  • Income Limitation for Property Used by Non-Profit Homes for the Aged: Single: $28,596 & Couples: $32,104

Contact the Property Appraiser’s Office for additional detail to apply for the exemptions at (561) 355-2866 or http://www.pbcgov.com/papa/Exemption.htm.
