WEST PALM BEACH – February 25, 2008 The Tax Collector’s Wacky Water Station won best water station at the 2007 Marathon of the Palm Beaches. The prize money of $1,000 will be donated to the Tax Collector’s charity partners at a reception at the Tax Collector offices. The partner charities are: Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, and The Lord’s Place. The reception will be held Tuesday, February 26th at 4:00p.m. Press is welcome to attend and must RSVP to Jennifer Mahoney, Director of Public Affairs 355-4271.
The Tax Collector’s Wacky Water Team, led by Royal Palm Beach Service Center Supervisor, Dale Harbort, chose a “Monopoly” theme and worked hard to build hotels, houses, and board pieces featuring local real estate. The station enhanced its wackiness by putting another Palm Beach County politician in jail ¼Tax Collector Anne Gannon (starring as Jake the Jailbird) served a maximum four hour sentence behind bars.
The “Water Works” board piece was displayed behind the water tables, with a little twist. Our version was “Boiled Water Works” with a price of $3,000,000 to repair the water plant! Tax Collector Gannon said “Our team was very creative, and found ways to incorporate light‑hearted humor.”
